Data Scientist
At ABAX, we’re transforming telematics across Europe, helping businesses optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
As a data scientist, you'll be part of our ABAX central data science team, currently four members strong, develops and maintains core services for 45,000 customers.
You'll develop, deploy, and maintain data-driven models and analytical solutions that improve ABAX’s telematics products and internal processes. Leverage statistical methods, machine learning, generative AI and domain expertise to generate insights, predict customer behavior, and optimize product performance. Contribute across the full data science lifecycle — from problem framing and data engineering through model development, validation, and operationalization.
Some of the things you will be working on:
Data Science delivery
- Develop and deploy predictive models (e.g., churn, driver behavior, anomaly detection, prediction models).
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify opportunities and data quality issues.
Data Engineering and Integration
- Collaborate with data engineers to source, clean, and transform data from telematics devices, ERP, and external APIs.
- Work with cloud environments (e.g., GCP BigQuery, Azure) for large-scale data processing.
Experimentation and Evaluation
- Design and execute experiments (A/B tests, pilots) to validate hypotheses.
- Monitor and evaluate model performance (accuracy, R², accuracy, MAPE, stability).
Collaboration and Business Impact
- Work closely with product managers, engineers, and commercial teams to translate business challenges into data science problems.
Essential skills:
- Strong proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
- Experience with SQL and large-scale data platforms (e.g., BigQuery).
- Solid background in statistics, machine learning, and data modeling.
Good-to-have:
- Familiarity with MLOps practices (CI/CD for ML, model monitoring).
- Ability to visualize and communicate insights (e.g., matplotlib, Jupyter Notebooks, Looker, Looker Studio).
- Knowledge of telematics/IoT data.
- Experience with version control (Git) and agile methodologies.
- Awareness of ethical AI principles and responsible ML practices.
We believe you have:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in data Science.
Personal attributes:
We’re looking for someone who embodies our four core values: enthusiastic, customer-centric, innovative, and sustainable. You tackle challenges with an analytical mindset and strong attention to detail, paired with excellent problem-solving skills. Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
At ABAX, we value teamwork and strong cooperation across teams, departments, and geographies. Being a true team player is key to contributing to our continued success.
